While working at a big box tech store over a decade ago now, as a Sales Associate, they introduced a new set of service plans. Those plans, at least for me, were not very well explained on how they would benefit anyone, and I found the internal training modules quite lacking. So I took it upon myself to grab some of the paperwork we had offering each of the plans, along with our normal ones, to compare and figure out why I should bother pitching it to customers. In the process I created new service sheets that, at least for me, actually highlighted why the services existed in the first place, what they can do for the customer, and break things down in an easier to digest way. I brought them in to work and our entire sales team loved them and they became the go-to references for our store. I expanded and started giving the same treatment to other services simply asking other tenured staff and on site service technicians members "What's missing from your current paper work? What would make your life easier?" Not long after implementing some of my work, our store started becoming the top in the district, then the country. A version of my forms ended up going national, though compensation was a bit lackluster in the form of a shout out on the internal news postings (not me specifically, but referring to just our location number) and maybe $6 worth of branded merchandise (a coffee mug and thumb drive). Still these were fun to work on, and I was able to make the place better than when I got there.
